Rheumatology Center of Excellence

Supporting rheumatology patients living with a rare condition

Orsini’s Rheumatology Center of Excellence launched in 2026 with our first program for fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP). Our dedicated Therapy Care Teams work with the physician’s office and insurance on a patient’s behalf so that our patients and their family have more time to focus on their treatment and quality of life. We are here to listen, provide counseling on treatment, including side-effect management, and assist with sourcing third-party financial assistance.

About Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP)

Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva is a rare genetic disorder caused by a mutation in the ACVR1 gene, in which muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues gradually turn into bone. It is associated with restricted movement, locked joints, progressive loss of mobility, and shortened life expectancy. Symptoms often begin in early childhood, and many people with FOP are born with characteristic malformations of the big toes.
